Movie analysis: The Jaime Foxx vampire movie

Jamie Foxxand Dave Franco star in the vampire hunting movie "Day Shift". The movie tells the story of a blue collar dad trying to provide a better life for his young daughter. However, his routine job in San Fernando Valley pool cleaning is a disguise for his true income, hunting down and killing vampires as part of an International Union of Viper Hunters.

The premise sounds exciting, but can J.J. Perry deliver on it?

The opening scene of the movie is a bonkers action sequence with Jamie Foxx shotgun blasting the hell out of an old lady who turns out to be a vampire. The two of them then have a wild fight that turns out to be a great time. The movie's use of ragdoll physics in its action scenes makes them pop in a way that many other action movies (or blockbusters) do not.

Day Shift is another fun, non-serious film that I felt like I could genuinely enjoy the whole way through. I didn't think about it too much. There was great action that was new and it was enjoyable to watch. It had humor, and I was able to laugh out loud quite a bit. Of course it also took reference from som brilliant vampire films such as Blade and the Lost Boys which also happen to be some of my favorite films. The acting was solid, the directing was brilliant and the cinematography quite impressive. Day Shift is a film that's both entertaining and lighthearted. It's lots of fun.

Day Shift is a mixed movie. On one hand, there is a lot of fun action and some fun characters (the brothers and Seth), but on the other hand the villain was horrible and there are a lot of mediocre characters. Some scenes were missing. Bud's neighbor acts like they are (first article) close friends even though she was only given 3 minutes of screen-time prior to the final scene. This makes the characters who are better than others shine even more. Overall, it's an enjoyable movie, but it could have been better.

Snoop dogg makes the entire movie worth watching. Snoop Dogg is simply a great guy. He is the epitome of cool.
